REASONS FOR MASSAGE

Event Massage

Pre-event sports massage is given within twenty four hours of an event to improve performance and help decrease the risk of injury. It is used as a supplement to an athlete's warm-up to enhance circulation and reduce excess muscle and mental tension prior to competition. It is a shorter session which uses lighter stimulating techniques.

Post-event sports massage is mainly concerned with recovery. It is geared toward reducing the muscle spasms and metabolic build-up that occur with vigorous exercise.

Maintenance Massage

Once an injury or muscular tension / tightness has been regularly treated and resolved with massage therapy, maintenance is an essential part of managing the soft tissue to prevent a reoccurrence of muscular tightness, pain and discomfort.

The regularity of the maintenance massage sessions can be from 4 to 8 weeks apart, after the initial treatment period, and will result in a better quality of life without pain and discomfort.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain is pain that recurs or persists for more than 3 weeks. Massage for chronic pain works by helping to interrupt the pain cycle. When you have pain in a certain area of the body, the muscles tighten around that area to "protect" it, mobility is limited, and often, circulation is reduced. Massage for chronic pain helps restore mobility by loosening tight muscles and trigger points and by lengthening muscles. Massage also improves circulation by increasing blood flow, as well as promoting relaxation which helps relieve emotional stress and anxiety that can contribute to chronic pain.

Lymphatic Drainage (www.lymphaticsinstitute.com) helps by keeping the environments around the cells healthy and by stimulating the immune system function. Therefore many chronic conditions can be helped in some way.
